This qualification will give you the opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge of the safe use and application of pesticides. Our course will also assess your knowledge and understanding of: • The regulations regarding safe use of pesticides • Pesticide product information • Hazards and risks associated with pesticides • Personal safety when using pesticides • The measures to deal with pesticide poisoning • Safe working practices • The requirements for protected areas • Environmental risks and protection of wildlife • How to deal with incidents • Factors to consider when using pesticides

Boom Sprayers 

Who should attend?

• The regulations regarding safe use of pesticides • Pesticide product information • Hazards and risks associated with pesticides • Personal safety when using relevant equipment • The measures to deal with pesticide poisoning • Safe working practices • The requirements for protected areas • Environmental risks and protection of wildlife • How to deal with incidents • Factors to consider when using pesticides with vehicle-mounted boom sprayer equipment

Training Duration 1 day 

Assessment 2.5 hrs the following day

 

Hand Held Applicators 

These cover the use of hand-held equipment fitted with hydraulic nozzles or rotary atomisers to be applied to land and/or land and water

. Who should attend? 

This qualification is suitable for those entering work, those who have established themselves in a role and those working at technician/supervisory/management levels.

 What will be covered? 

The qualification will assess your knowledge, understanding and competence in: • The regulations regarding safe use of pesticides • Pesticide product information • Hazards and risks associated with pesticides • Personal safety when using hand-held equipment • The measures to deal with pesticide poisoning • Safe working practices • The requirements for protected areas • Environmental risks and protection of wildlife • How to deal with incidents • Factors to consider when using pesticides with hand-held equipment

Weed Wiper 

The finer details 
Our course involves a balanced mix of theory and practical work. We'll run through pesticide legislation and the key safety issues. You'll be taught the basics of what the applicator is and what it can do. 

Who should attend? Our course is aimed at anyone using, or looking to use, professional pesticide products in industries like agriculture, horticulture and forestry. What will be covered? By the end of our course, you will be able to: • identify and describe how vehicle mounted/trailed wick type equipment operates • safely assess environmental risks • prepare and set up the equipment • set and calibrate the equipment for a given application • fill the equipment safely • operate the equipment safely and effectively • clean and decontaminate equipment safely • maintain and store the equipment correctly.

To be eligible, you must have already attended our Safe Use of Pesticides course

Stem Injection 

The finer details

This course is designed for people who may use stem injection as a method of pesticide application.

Our experienced instructors will use a mix of theory and practical sessions.

You'll learn how to prepare, set up and use the equipment safely and effectively.

You'll also be taught key decontamination and storage techniques.

  • The Working Principles of a Stem Injector
  • Preparation of the Stem Injector for Work
  • Needles
  • Calibrating a Stem Injector

  • Decontamination and Storage.

Chainsaw Training 

Our team consists of highly qualified Chainsaw Trainers and assessors 

Maintenance and Crosscutting 

Formly knowm as CS30
  • Gain knowledge and understanding across a range of forestry and arboriculture functions and activities
  • Be able to work effectively in a forestry and arboriculture environment, both independently and as part of a team
  • Be able to review and develop your own practices, and carry out a range of practical forestry and arboriculture tasks, to the required industry standard
  • Improve your awareness of health and safety legislation and how individuals can contribute to the Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) agenda
  • Obtain occupational competence and/or licence to practice
  • Meet the licence-to-practise or other legal requirements made by the relevant sector, profession or industry.

To achieve this qualification, you'll need to have completed two mandatory units:

  • Carry out maintenance of chainsaw and cutting system
  • Cross-cut timber using a chainsaw.

Worth noting: Our course involves some physical sessions, so it's essential that you have at least a minimum level of fitness.

 

2 days Training plus a 3 hr assessment on a separate day 

Chainsaw Maintenance, Cross-cutting and BasicFelling Trees up-to 200mm ITA 

Learn the basics of non-professional chainsaw use with this course.

This ITA course is not suitable for a Professional User.

  • Identify the risk assessment and emergency procedures on a worksite
  • Assess trees to be felled for hazards and associated risks
  • Prepare trees to be felled and identify escape routes
  • Fell trees which have a diameter up to 200mm/8” safely and accurately using appropriate techniques
  • Remove branches from felled trees in a safe and methodical manner
  • Select and use hand tools and maintain them in a safe condition
  • Take down hung-up trees using hand tools
  • State techniques which must not be used for the takedown of hung-up trees.

The finer details

This is an integrated training and assessment course.

You'll be taught health and safety theory.

You'll then move on to practical work, which will be assessed by our expert instructors.

Chainsaw maintenance is an important part of the course.

You'll learn about daily checks and the sharpening of the chain.

After that, there are a number of practical sessions.

You'll learn basic felling techniques.

How to de-limb trees and cross-cut timber will also be covered, as will dealing with hung-up trees up to 200mm/8ins in diameter

Level 2 Award in Felling and Processing Trees up to 380mm

Formly Known as CS31

Prove your competence at felling trees up to 380mm with Lantra.

These qualifications are requirements for Professional Users to operate chainsaws in the UK and Ireland 

By the end of this course, you will have:

  • Gained a recognised national qualification demonstrating your competence and knowledge
  • Developed further knowledge, understanding and skills to help support your current role
  • Furthered your career options
  • Enhanced your ability to work safely, effectively and efficiently in the workplace.

The finer details

We use a balanced mix of theory and practical sessions to ensure you're working confidently to industry standards of good working practice.

You'll be given the chance to demonstrate your knowledge of, and competence in, the key skills of tree felling and processing.

Our course will also teach you to work safely across 23 guided learning hours.

Quality Assurance policies are in place to ensure that all assessments meet the independent assessment requirements for this sector.

Worth noting: As there are physical elements to our course, you'll need to have at least a minimum level of fitness.

 

3 days Training plus a 3 hr assessment 

All Learner must have completed and passed Level 2 Award in Maintenace and crosscutting.

 

Felling and Processing Trees over 380mm

Formly Known as CS32

Fell trees and cross-cut timber safely and effectively with our three-day course.

This course is not an alternative to achieving the qualification in this area. Professional Users must achieve the Level 3 Award in Felling and Processing Trees over 380mm.

  • Identify hazards and risks, and produce a risk assessment for the site
  • Agree appropriate emergency plans/procedures for the worksite
  • Organise site safety in compliance with current good practice and relevant health and safety legislation, and state the procedures required
  • Assess the trees to be felled for hazards and risks
  • Assess the work site for environmental impact
  • Fell trees over 380mm/15”
  • Assess a leaning tree and the safest method of felling
  • Make accurate felling cuts in the correct positions
  • De-limb felled trees in a safe and methodical manner
  • Cross-cut timber accurately to required lengths
  • Assess and explain the terms tension and compression in timber
  • Adopt safe procedures to remove a trapped guide bar
  • Handle and stack timber in a safe manner
  • Assess a hung-up tree and the safest method of takedown
  • Select and prepare equipment required for safe and effective takedown
  • Check on the safety of takedown tools
  • Make accurate severing cuts in the correct positions
  • Select and use hand tools safely
  • Take down hung-up trees to a safe and stable position
  • State techniques which must not be used for the takedown of hung-up trees.

Worth noting: Our course involves a lot of physical work, so you'll need at least a minimum level of fitness to successfully complete all the tasks.

 

3 days Training plus a 3 hr assessment 

All Learner must have completed and passed Level 2 Award in Maintenance and crosscutting and Felling and proccesimg trees up to 380mm.

Use of a Chainsaw from a Mobile Elevated Work Platform

Hone your specialist chainsaw skills with our comprehensive two-day course.

This course is not an alternative to achieving the qualification in this area. Professional Users must achieve the Level 3 Award in Use of a Chainsaw from a Mobile Elevated Work Platform - MEWP.

Stump Grinder 

Learn to use this powerful machine safely and expertly with our specialist one-day course.Produce a site-specific risk assessment for stump grinding operations

  • State the principles of health and safety legislation and guidelines for using a stump grinder
  • Select the appropriate personal protective equipment and state the maintenance requirements
  • Carry out operator checks and identify the safety features of a stump grinder
  • Carry out routine operator maintenance
  • Inspect and identify defects on the grinding mechanism
  • Prepare machine prior to operation, start the machine, carry out safety checks and stop machine
  • Prepare a work area and a range of stumps for grinding and identify hazardous materials not to be ground
  • Use approved techniques for safe and efficient stump grinding of a range of stump sizes
  • State the procedure for removing blockages
  • Re-instate ground and deal with arisings
  • Prepare machine for transport and storage.

 

 

Power Pole Pruner 

Prove your skills and knowledge with a powered pole pruner with Lantra.

These qualifications are requirements for Professional Users to operate chainsaws in Ireland and the  UK.

This qualification will allow you to demonstrate your skills and knowledge in the following areas:

Being able to work Safely.

Being able to use a powered pole pruner.

Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation and industry good practice.

Knowledge of how to use a powered pole pruner.

Wood Chipper 

This is an integrated training and assessment course.

You'll receive a certificate of training once it is completed.

We'll use a balanced mix of theory and practical sessions to guide you through the process.

You'll learn all the key health and safety issues.

Routine maintenance tuition will follow.

Practical work will include chipping and removing blockages.

Worth noting: Inexperienced operators might need more time to fully master all the elements of our course.
